Growing Number of Colorado Alumni Keeping Busy

NASA Academy alumni seem to like Colorado! This fall, the official count will be at least 15 alumni from three NASA Centers spread between Boulder, Denver, and Colorado Springs. That's up from three in 1995. With such a large number in Boulder alone, there is always something going on, but every couple of months the whole group gets together; here's some of what they have been up to...

Brainard Lake, Indian Peaks Wilderness Area, Colorado, October, 1997

Following a BBQ in Boulder attended by most of the NASA Academy alumni in the Denver area, several of the group proceeded up to Brainard Lake, about 45 minutes west of Boulder, for a short hike. Pictured from left to right are: Jeremy Richardson (GSFC96), Jeff Baltrush (GSFC97), Elisa Quintana (GSFC97), Laura Sachi (GSFC95), and Mike Moreau (GSFC94). Jennifer Probst (GSFC97) is behind the camera. If you look closely you can see the lake is partially frozen.

Winter Park, Colorado, January 1, 1998

Jim Brice was in town for skiing and New Year's Eve in Winter Park, Colorado, and a few people drove up from Boulder for a day of skiing. Below is the current high-altitude record for a NASA Academy group photo, at the top of the Timberline lift at Winter Park, el. 12,024 ft. The wind was blowing a steady 50 mph at this point! Pictured from left to right are Mike Moreau, Elisa Quintana, Jim Brice, Jeff Baltrush, and Jeremy Richardson. Plans are in the works to set a new record with a hike later this summer.

Lockheed Martin Astronautics, Denver, Colorado, March 4, 1998

With the help of Lockheed Martin Employees Trey McDowell (GSFC93) and Laura Sachi, Mike Moreau and Jennifer Probst organized a great tour of the Flight Systems division of Lockheed Martin Astronautics in Denver. Several alumni went along where the group saw the Mars Global Surveyor Control Room, the Mars Polar Lander and the Stardust spacecraft in different stages of integration and test, and heard about several other spacecraft programs currently in work there.
