Post-Academy Research with NASA Center or Principal Investigator:

Eric Anderson (GSFC '95) continued research with his PI Ernest Hilsenrath on an attitude control sensor using Rayleigh Scattering at the University of Virginia.

Karen Bottom (GSFC '95) returned to GSFC the summer following the Academy to continue to work with her PI.

Dan Greenspan (GSFC '96) works for GSFC developing adaptive computer systems for science processing.

Andrew Hoppin (GSFC '94) co-authored a paper with his PI which came out of the summer research. The paper was presented at the American Society for Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing meetings in 1995.

Dave Kalman (GSFC '94) used his summer research as his Master's thesis.

Mike Moreau (GSFC '94) returned to GSFC to work on GPS navigation research.

Brian Roberts (GSFC '94) wrote a successful DDF proposal for his graduate research to work with PI John Vranish.

Phil Romig (GSFC '93) received a one year fellowship from his PI to continue Academy research.

Heather Thomas (GSFC'93) worked as a full-time contractor at GSFC continuing work with her PI.

Catherine Venturini (MSFC '95) is continuing her summer project as her master's thesis.

Joseph Mueller (DFRC '97) continued his work on the F/A-18 Systems Research Aircraft at Dryden as part of his Master's thesis.

Matt Lacey (ARC'99) continued his academy research, flying aboard the 1999 Leonid Multi-Instrument Aircraft Campaign to operate the instrument he developed.

Tyson Harty (ARC '98) returned to ARC the summer following his Academy to continue to work with his PI, Bob Welch, on the Mars Gravity Simulator.

Nate Palumbo (DRFC '98) returned to Dryden to work in the Proplusion Branch of the Research Directorate.

Heather Hillebrandt (DFRC '98) returned to Dryden to work in the Structures Branch of the Research Directorate.

Jake Vashon (ARC '98) is currently working at Dryden in the Proplusion Branch of the Research Directorate.


Post-Academy Interaction with NASA Centers or Contractors:

Chris Cousins (GSFC '96) is an on-site contractor for IIT Research Institute in Huntsville, Alabama, running a materials testing lab.

Enectali Figueroa (GSFC '95) and Laura Sachi (GSFC '95) helped Ames Research Center with the new Astrobiology Academy.

Andrew Gray (GSFC '94) developed advanced communication systems for GSFC following the Academy, and is now at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory.

Dan Greenspan (GSFC '95) spent a few weeks working at NASA's Infrared Telescope Facility in Hawaii developing science observation software for comet Hale-Bopp, facilitated by a JOVE grant and a Rowan University grant.

Cyndi Hall Atkinson (GSFC '96) works at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) on Earth science educational outreach.

Chris Lewicki (GSFC '96) participated in the NEAR XGRS Science Team meeting at GSFC and is currently working with JPL and NASA/HQ on a satellite project at the University of Arizona.

Trey McDowell (GSFC '93) is working for Lockheed Martin Astronautics on Titan IV Mission Analysis.

Phil Romig (GSFC '93) was a member of an EOSDIS alternative design team, an advisory group to NASA/GSFC on options for the design of EOSDIS.

Laura Sachi (GSFC '95) is working at Lockheed Martin Astronautics on attitude determination and control systems for Stardust and Mars Surveyor Programs.

Kathleen Sienko (ARC '97) interned at Johnson Space Center.

Jon Sims (GSFC '95) is a member of the engineering staff at JPL where he designs trajectories for interplanetary missions.

Jacob Yates (GSFC '96) is an on-site contractor at NASA-GSFC's Geodynamics Branch as a Faculty Research Assistant for the University of Maryland, College Park.


Post-Academy Interaction with Space Grant:

Derek Carlson (GSFC '95) is developing a WWW page to match student backgrounds with current jobs in the aerospace industry.

Chelle Crowder (GSFC '96) interacts with her Space Grant on Mars Pathfinder public outreach.

Dave Kalman (GSFC '94) returned to work on the HOMER sounding rocket and other University of Colorado, Colorado Springs Space Grant projects (most notably the EOSS-22 balloon payload).

Danielle Manuzak (GSFC '96) gave Academy presentations.

Mike Moreau (Vermont) (successfully) encouraged the University of Colorado at Bolder to participate in the 1997 Academy.

Jon Sims (GSFC '95) worked with Space Grant in establishing the Dryden Academy, and was instrumental in getting Purdue University involved with a new Get Away Special educational initiative at GSFC.

Catherine Venturini (MSFC '95) maintains the Alabama Space Grant web site.


Mentioned in Directory Discretionary Fund Annual Report

Each summer, the Academy Research Associates (RAs) work on projects funded by a special allocation of money set aside for new, creative, and innovative research called the Director's Discretionary Fund (DDF). At the conclusion of each year, an annual report is published detailing the year's progress and it is distributed around each Center, to NASA Headquarters, and to other NASA Centers.
